DB: Another double win!

With the parents weekend coming to an end, having two wins under RIG B's belt putting them in to second place is just what they need to launch them in to their last three matches.

Parents weekend can sometimes create nerves, excitement and the pressure to show the parents how much the players have progressed. Today's match saw a sizable crowd in Freja B with RIG students and parents alike. Today was important. The win would determine RIG B's place in the ladder, clear second or to remain a tie with Värnamo.

The last time RIG B played Kronan, the team seemed raw with not much fight in them. This time around, we saw a different team, a fighting team. This, however, did not stir RIG much, but kept them on their toes, bringing forth opportunities to grow as players. The first set was a clear sweep for RIG. The energy was high and the game flowed well with setter Tyra Areskoug at the helm. Middle blocker Alicia Jobe started the team out with a big block from the middle. An attack from Wilma Calmfors and a serve ace from outside hitter Maja Heden kept the ball rolling. They made it difficult for Kronan to get any type of foothold on the set. Steam started to ware out at the end of the set which allowed Kronan to push their way in, points wise. Still, RIG prevailed and ended the set with a clean win of 25-14.

The second set showed more even plays and a consistency in fight from Kronan. With a new line up in, RIG was put to the test. With Maja Stenman putting pressure on Kronan from the service line with her improved spin serve in the first, which carried over to set two, it was again difficult for Kronan to gain a lead. Middle blockers Ida Johansson and Fanny Skogsfors demanded the middle blocker roll by recording 5 blocks toegther on the set. Outside attacker Wilma Calmfors had the claws out and was killing almost every ball she was given, with 7 kills and 1 attack error recorded. With a few more own errors, RIG gave up just one more point than set 1, final score 25-15.

The third and final set was the closest, play and point wise. With Kronan still in no mood to give up, they put the pressure on in attack at the pins. This allowed RIG's defense to react and work on their reading skills. Middle blocker Sandra Abrahamsson turned up the heat at the service line and in attack, recording 2 serve aces and 2 kills. Kronan gained a little momentum towards the end, however with tough serving from setter Lisa Pettersson, they could not gain the lead. With a final kill from right side attacker Maja Stenman, the match was a win for RIG B! Final score, 25-22.

With three matches to go, it is possible to maintain the second place standing. We look forward to the season's end and know RIG B will put their best foot forward to end with a bang! Back to work next week to prepare for KFUM Göteborg. Nu kör vi!

Top point scorers:

Wilma Calmfors: 15p (13 kills, 1 service ace, 1 block)
